NCS Sends Six Teams to Howe Cup

The A team, captained by former Trinity college player and pro Larissa Stephenson, finished third behind the championship Philadelphia team and a strong Boston team. Local GU19 junior Camille Lanier at the challenging #2 spot went 2-2 on her matches, as did first-time Howe Cup player Alex Franscechi at #4. The A team was happy to have Kim Clearkin of California at #3 and Colorado player Heidi Wagner at #5 completing the ranks. Congratulations to Larissa who won all her matches 3-0.

The B1 team had a great tournament, but ultimately fell in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in the main draw to the champion Southport team.  That was the team’s only loss and they ended up coming in third thanks to a very deep team made up of three veteran Howe Cup players: Deb Phippard at #1, Carole Grunberg (#5) and captain Leslie Connolly (#4), Howe Cup newbie Maggie Smith (#2) and recently returned veteran, Jackie Corrigan Curay (#3).

National Capital High School Squash League

Jahangir Naseem, Director of Squash at the Tenley, Regency and WorldGate Sport & Health Clubs, has created a new high school squash league called the National Capital High School League, for schools that use Sport and Health Clubs' squash courts at Tenley, Worldgate and Regency as well as other high schools that  have their own squash facilities or use those of other clubs.  There are five teams: Madeira High School, National Cathedral School, Thomas Jefferson High School, Wilson High School and Wakefield High School.
