The NCS Howe Cup "A" Team clinched a semifinal berth Oct. 21.  The five-player team played two matches in group play today, and dropped just one individual match.

They clinched the semis spot by beating Baltimore's A Team, a tough team that had a WISPA pro (ranked World #53 from S. Africa!) playing #1, but Larissa Stephenson beat her.

We'll post results for the other seven NCS teams as we get them.

Results’ Stephenson Advances to Quarterfinals

Top seeds Dipika Pallikal and Latasha Khan Thursday easily vanquished their opponents with surgical precision in the $12K WISPA DREAD SERIES 2 TOURNAMENT while there were upsets of the #3, #4, #6, and #8 seeds, including two by qualifiers.

Tickets are getting scarce for the semis and finals, so reserve your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

The first upset was scored by qualifier Alix Younger, who beat the #8 and fellow Canadian Genevieve Lessard in three.

Hometown favorite Larissa Stephenson, a qualifier and pro at Results, The Gym, handily beat the #4 seed, South Africa’s Adel Nunan 3-0 in a crisp 24 minutes.  Stephenson looked sharp and fit and appears to have a good shot at going deep in the main draw, which would delight the home crowd.

Women’s Squash Night a Hit!

Women’s Squash Night a Hit!

National Capital Squash presented and The Sports Club/LA hosted the first-ever NCS “Women’s Squash Night” September 14, 2011,.  More than 30 women came to this event, which was promoted to kick off the fall season and also as a social event to meet other women players.

Skill levels included a handful of rank beginners up to some of the best women players in the area, and ages ranged from a 15-year old junior to senior citizen. Play was segregated by skill level and designed in a “5-up” format to maximize the opportunity for participants to play each other as well as have an opportunity to socialize as they were watching fellow players and waiting their turn on the court.

Harrow donated a new squash racquet and a racquet bag, both of which were raffled off as door prizes.

Participants seemed to really enjoy the dedicated venue to have a hit with other women, old friends and new.   AJ Copeland, Vice President for Women of [...Read More...]
